Your Mind is a Battlefield Part 2: Arm Yourself For Battle With the Word of God
Hello there my friend! I hope you have had an amazing week.
And, I hope you have had the opportunity to catch last week’s blog post.
This topic is near and dear to me, as I fought this battle for years, and it continues to be an ongoing battle. But God rescued me by transforming my mind through His word and prayer. God taught me how to fight…the right way.
So trust me, everything that I’m sharing with you is things that I walked through. If I know nothing else… I know the word of God WORKS.
Last week on the blog, we talked about recognizing who your real enemy is. The first step to winning the battle in your mind is knowing who you are really fighting against, and recognizing him when he comes.
So, now to the most important thing….how do we fight this battle in our mind?
How do we fight against these attacks of the enemy, when he comes against us to incite fear, anxiety, sadness, hopelessness, and divisiveness?
How do we come against satan when he plants seeds of doubt and unbelief, to make us question God’s word, God’s faithfulness to us and His word, God’s ability to perform His word, and sometimes even God’s very existence?
Through the word of God.
In Matthew 4, we see that when Jesus was tested in the wilderness by satan, satan attacked Jesus at his points of weakness. Jesus had just gotten finished fasting, so he was hungry. Satan twisted the word of God to appeal to Jesus’s fleshly weaknesses. Doesn’t this sound familiar in our daily walk?
Jesus overcame the twisted lies of the enemy with the pure and unadulterated word of God. Jesus’ response to the temptings of satan always began with the phrase “It is written.”
It’s just like satan, to attack us at our most weary point…during times when we are physically and mentally worn out …to play against our insecurities, fears, struggles, and trigger points.
Satan does everything that he can to appeal to our fleshy desires and weaknesses.
Now don’t get me wrong, nothing about satan is omnipotent or omnipresent. He is not all-seeing and all-knowing. But he is persistent and dedicated to seeing us fall. Satan will study you day and night until he knows what buttons to push. Not only will he study you, but he will study your children and your husband. So, we must study satan as well and know his tactics.
The bible tells us in Ephesians:
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes…Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6: 11, 13-17.
We see in this passage that the WORD is your SWORD.
To defeat this battle in our mind, we have to know the word of God
Now, I’m not suggesting that you go on a quest to learn every scripture of the bible. What I’m saying is, we have to be very intentional about spending time reading the Word of God and making it a priority in our lives.
If you are not accustomed to searching out scriptures that will encourage you in your situation, the Bible can seem overwhelming. Therefore, I have created a list of scriptures for you to refer to when different situations arise in your life.
When the enemy whispers you can’t, tell him “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”
When the enemy whispers “you are useless, you are a terrible person and a terrible mom,” tell him with confidence “I am fearfully and wonderfully made; God’s works are wonderful, I know that full well! I am God’s work!”
Sis, you don’t have to lay down and accept the lies that he whispers as your truth.
You don’t have to allow the fear, anxiety, and hopelessness that the enemy’s words incite to paralyze you.
You are God’s handiwork! You are His child! Fear, anxiety, and depression are not your portion and you don’t have to accept it!
God did not leave you defenseless against your enemy. Pick up your sword and use it.
When you hear a lie being whispered, pick up your bible and find a scripture to combat that lie.
Satan is no match for the God we serve! Satan’s lies will never overcome God’s truth.
God’s word is truth and we have the victory through His word!
