Your Mind is a Battlefield Part 4: Be Proactive in Prayer
Hello Friends! We finally made it to Part 4 of this series!
We have learned how to recognize who our real enemy is. We have learned how to arm ourselves for battle with the word of God. We have learned how to be intentional with our thought life and take captive the thoughts that don’t line up with the word of God.
This last strategy is the most practical, common-sense approach, but most people, including myself, find it the hardest to consistently do.
We need to fight the battle of the mind by being proactive in prayer.
What does it mean to be proactive in prayer? Let’s think about it like this…Do we wait until our home catches fire to purchase homeowners’ insurance, or do we purchase the insurance first, so that we will have it if we need it?
You don’t want to wait until you are in an intense battle in your mind when your thoughts and emotions are haywire to start praying. You want to consistently be in prayer to fortify yourself so that when attacks come, you will be prepared.
When we pray to our Heavenly Father, by faith we are activating our weaponry. In prayer, He strengthens us in our minds. We are reminded of the faithful Father that He is and we are reminded of who we are in Him. With this reminder comes peace.
In prayer, we are recognizing who truly holds ALL power in His hand. Only God is sovereign, only God is omnipresent and able to be everywhere at once. Only God is omniscient, all-knowing. We are recognizing God for who He is and depending on His strength for the battle. Weapons are formed against us, but they won’t prosper. Satan is no match for the God we serve.
In prayer, as we spend time with the one who loves us most, we develop our trust in Him. The more time we spend with Him, the more we can confidently come to Him and let our requests be known. We can give thanks and experience His peace in our hearts and minds because we can trust that He has it all under control.
In prayer, we are acknowledging that the God we serve is so much bigger than any fear or anxiety that may be trying to hold us captive.
In prayer, we are fortifying and strengthening our flesh so that we will not yield to the temptation of sin, complaining, and worrying. Matthew 26:41 says “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
1 Peter 5:8 says: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” If we do not have a consistent prayer life, we are a prime target for the enemy and his attacks on the mind.
The time spent in prayer can be so beautiful and powerful. My husband often says if we realized how powerful prayer is, we would do it more.
Not only do we battle in prayer, but we also have sweet communion with the one who loves us the most, our Heavenly Father.
Let’s be vigilant in prayer, staying alert. When the enemy comes in like a flood, you will be armed and ready, and even if life gives you blows, you won’t be punch drunk. You will be able to stand strong in the Lord.
Let’s be vigilant in prayer, keeping our head on a swivel. When the enemy is prowling around looking for someone to devour, let him only find a woman who is strong because she has spent time on her knees.
Let’s be vigilant in prayer so that we after we make our requests known to Him, the Peace of God which surpasses all understanding can guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
